The
producers behind the Best Film and Best Actress Goya-winning “UNDERCOVER”, take
the action- thriller one step further with this ambitious project that will
submerge audiences into one of the most devastating and dramatic episodes in
modern European history. Written by top genre writer Alberto Marini and
directed by gifted BO champion Fernando González Molina, OPERATION CRONOS is
already one of the most anticipated films of 2026.
On that day a terrorist drove a
van into crowds on Barcelona’s iconic Las Ramblas, killing 13 people and
injuring over 100 in a brutal and deliberate attack. Triggered by the Islamic
State (ISIS), the assault was part of a series of coordinated terrorist
incidents across Catalonia, including a second attack in Cambrils. In response,
local police forces launched a swift and highly effective counter-terrorism
operation - codenamed Operation Cronos - which became a turning point in the
manhunt for those responsible. The bravery and rapid action of law enforcement
were key to neutralising the threat and preventing further tragedy.
The original score for Cronos : the film by Fernando González
Molina recounting the 124-hour manhunt that followed the 2017 Las Ramblas
attack in Barcelona, is carried by piano and cello played in close proximity,
almost against the body, to capture the tremble rather than the note. A careful
work on texture : grain, breath, the friction of the bow, gives the score an
almost tactile quality, never smooth. The empty, bloodstained streets of the Rambla
find their echo in this instrumental starkness, without emphasis or dramatic
excess. The themes answer one another from character to character: victims,
police, families, like threads bound together by a shared inner tension across
those hours of pursuit. The score stays restrained : it accompanies the wound
rather than commenting on it, staying close to the silence that followed the
horror.
