Blockbuster ‘Operation Red Sea’ to Shoot 40 Episodes for Television   The Chairman of Bona Films, Yu Dong, recently disclosed at the “Record the New Age” creative conference that Operation Red Sea , the second best-selling domestic film in the history of China’s box office, will be adapted for TV. The 40 episode series will expand on the film as well as lay out its backstory.  The line-up of the drama has yet to be disclosed. In March 2015, the Navy’s 19th escort convoy successfully completed its mission to evacuate Chinese citizens from Yemen. Operation Red Sea was adapted from this event. Why ‘Operation Red Sea’ Isn’t Like Other Chinese War Movies

Image
Last month, movie tickets sales in mainland China hit 10.1 billion yuan ($1.6 billion), a box office world record for monthly sales in a single market. And as Chinese consumers went movie mad, no film stood out more than “Operation Red Sea.” Directed by Dante Lam and starring Zhang Yi, “Operation Red Sea” is loosely based on the Chinese navy’s March 2015 evacuation of Yemen. Set amid militant unrest in a fictional Middle Eastern country, it tells the stories of a ship’s crew and an assault team as they rescue Chinese citizens and foreign refugees, resolving a potential nuclear crisis along the way. By the end of February, the film had grossed almost 2.5 billion yuan in just 13 days. Unlike last summer’s blockbuster “Wolf Warrior 2,” a bombastic tale of a loose-cannon Chinese soldier in an unnamed African country, “Operation Red Sea” is a dyed-in-the-wool war movie. The former has more in common with action movies such as the “Die Hard” franchise, while the content,...

OPERATION RED SEA (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) 紅海行動 (電影原聲帶 ) Director Dante Lam   林超 贤 Original Music by Elliot Leung 梁皓 一   Plaza Mayor Company Ltd Operation Red Sea ( Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on Itunes   It is an incredible honor to compose the score of "Operation Red Sea." Throughout the process, I was able to work very closely with Director Dante Lam. Combined with his fresh perspectives and the state-of-the-art visuals, I was able to draw forth my best creative juices to enhance the cinematic experience. The beginning of my composing thought sequences always began with how the team of 8 special forces members worked together, putting their own egos aside to accomplish the same goal. While both action and plot were stunning, this film was more about the being intrinsically human and the fulfilment of one's calling to me. Easy to say, I wholeheartedly loved every minute of working with Director Lam. See you guys in the cinema...

'Operation Red Sea': Review

Image
Dante Lam follows up his 2016 blockbuster ‘Operation Mekong’ with a Chinese rescue mission set in a fictional Arab country Dir: Dante Lam. China. 2018. 138 mins Subtlety is the first casualty of war in Operation Red Sea , which dispatches an elite division of China’s special forces to deal with a crisis situation in a fictionalised African country. A thematic sequel to director Dante Lam’s surprise box office smash Operation Mekong (2016), this is also the latest in a spate of Mainland China military pictures that deliver the blistering spectacle that is usually the domain of Hollywood blockbusters as a means of conveying resolutely patriotic messages and promoting military power. Lured to the Mainland industry by the promise of bigger budgets and limitless pyrotechnics, Hong Kong action specialist Lam goes all out in his effort to rival the sheer scale of Black Hawk Down (2001) while making sure to extoll the collective heroism of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). ...
