Bad Faith is a French film
released in 2025, directed by Albéric Saint-Martin and adapted from the novel
The Pious Schemes by Réginald de Thomas Hervouët. A notary from old France must
urgently save his dilapidated castle and prevent his daughter from marrying a
pretentious golden boy. The fortune promised by a dying countess to a young
bohemian artist could solve all his problems. Provided the future heir becomes
a good Catholic and falls in love with the beautiful fiancée.
Based on a rather thin scenario, De mauvaise foi combines humorous comedy and the feel-good movie, without failing to skillfully raise certain essential questions about the relationship to Christian faith. Beautiful decor and very high quality from all the actors, Pascal Demolon and Philippe Duquesne are excellent, and a trio of young actors to discover!
A
pleasant comedy, somewhat centered on the Catholic religion, but it is quite
well done. A few funny passages, an interesting story with a hint of romance,
led by the great Pascal Demolon. The other actors hold their own, and frankly,
it works! It's a shame that the director didn't push the comedy further to
elevate his film to the level of a 'humorous comedy'.
