Turner’s Warner TV to include Asian content

Turner is expanding the scope of general entertainment service Warner TV to include original Asian content, beginning with programming co-produced with Malaysia’s Astro for the channel.
The formal announcement at APOS in Bali this morning comes a day after Turner International president, Gerhard Zeiler, told delegates that "Hollywood content is still important for the region, but it's more important to go into local content".
The co-production alliance is part of a broad agreement that also includes carriage for Warner TV on Astro and OTT platform Tribe.
Warner TV will be available on demand and on linear via Astro Go and Astro TV from May 1.
This is Warner TV’s first carriage deal with Astro; the channel is already carried on HyppTV in Malaysia.

Details of local content production that will be developed under the strategic partnership have not been disclosed.
Astro COO, Henry Tan, said the new arrangement with Turner would “enable us to participate in the revenue distribution generated from Warner TV in the region”.
Financial details of the distribution arrangement have not been disclosed.
Tan also said the initiative was part of Astro’s focus on deepening “involvement in content creation and ownership, particularly in Asian IPs, which will be increasingly pivotal in a market that values strong differentiation”.
