Last week India-based Gaana claimed to be the country’s first music streaming service to hit 100 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs). Gaana’s Chief Executive Officer Prashan Agarwal then added that the platform expects to reach 200m MAUs in the next two years. Although Gaana’s latest milestone is impressive, it’s not alone: another hugely popular service in India, JioSaavn, has also surpassed the 100m mark, can reveal. According to sources close to the company, JioSaavn currently has  104m  MAUs as of today (April 29). Those same sources claim this figure is enough for the platform to stake its own claim as ‘India’s largest music streaming service’. A free, ad-supported YouTube Music service has been rolled out for Google Home users. Starting today (April 18), the free service is available on smart speakers  in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Japan, the Netherlands, and Austria and will be available in more countries soon. Not only is it for free on Google Home devices, but also on other third-party, Google Assistant-powered speakers, manufactured by the likes of Panasonic, JBL, Sony and others. To set up YouTube Music as the default music service on Google Home, if you already have a Google Home device, you’ll need to navigate to Account Settings in your Google Home app, tap Services and select Music. Entertainment One has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of UK-based Audio Network Limited (Audio Network) – a production music specialist and one of the world’s largest independent creators and publishers of original music for use in film, television, advertising and digital media. The buyout is being valued at approximately US $215 million. The announcement was made today (April 11) by eOne’s President and CEO Darren Throop, with Global President, Music Chris Taylor, and alongside Audio Network’s Founder & Chairman Andrew Sunnucks and CEO Robb Smith. The blockbuster album has begun looking like something of an endangered species in recent times. The birth of the streaming era, rooted in a track-led culture, has caused artists and record labels alike to question the future of the LP in an age dominated by playlists. The evidence: over 60% of Spotify streams for Drake’s record-breaking, 25-track Scorpion album are of just three songs (God’s Plan, In My Feelings and Nice For What). One recent study even suggested that a mere 16% of adults in the UK are now listening to an album all the way through in any given month.
