A comedy about making a horror movie. When six co-stars learn their hit Tv show is about to be canceled, they decide to shoot their own film, unintentionally a pirit with an affinity for violence….

UNTITLED HORROR MOVIE marks the sixth film and twelfth project that Nima Fakhrara and I have collaborated on. He has been a constant in my career since the beginning and I value and trust his talent immensely.

Nima and I met in 2009 while I was searching for a composer on my first feature film, REMOVAL. Our initial conversations took place before we had even started filming the movie. We spoke at length about the story and tone very early in the process, which would eventually become our pattern. We have these discussions sometimes as early as the writing stages and we use that to work off of each other creatively.

I have always been passionate about film scores and finding someone who can score my ideas on the page is a dream come true. For THE GIRL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS, Nima sent me a full suite of music while we were filming, solely based on footage from the dailies I would share with him. I remember humming his initial idea for “Passacaglia” while I was shooting the scene with our lead actress walking down a hallway to meet her fate. To be able to visualize - and hear - how the scene will play really helps me set that tone, which is the single hardest part of my job. And how the music is used can make or break it.

In April 2020 we had all been in lockdown for just a few weeks when I called Nima and asked if he would be interested in doing an experimental project Luke Baines and I came up with. I explained the story and told him this would be unlike anything we’d done before because we were incorporating a lot of comedy elements. To get this film score right would be one of the hardest things to nail down. The tone had to be perfect - we would be going from snide, sarcastic comedy to big scares in a moment's notice. Not surprisingly, Nima pulled it off masterfully. He wrote a recurring theme of just five notes that will stay in your head long after you watch the film, and built upon it in moments of both comedy and thrills.

After listening to the music in UNTITLED HORROR MOVIE again, I truly think this is his best work to date. The score is as genre bending as the film itself and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
