CEREBRUM (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Image
CEREBRUM (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Director Arvi Music composed by Edward Antonio Label Plaza Mayor Company Ltd   To make ends meet, Tom signs on as a guinea pig at a home-based lab, but when he commits a crime he cannot remember, he must risk his own sanity to reveal the truth…. From Composer: Edward Antonio This sci-fi film takes place in rural Texas which led me to have the choice of music with a country feel as well as hybrid cinematic feel. From guitars to massive boomers and binomial pulses, this gives a modern country sci-fi feel. Having both genres to the table was a challenge in itself but was extremely fulfilling and satisfying which made the soundtracks original and memorable. My approach always had director Arvi’s input and insight for every scene. They were meticulously crafted and at times, had many revisions just to get the right touch. If I had to have one word to describe the overall sound for the Cerebrum’s soundtrack, it would be “intense”.

FROM SONY’S NINE-FIGURE LABEL BUY TO SONGTRADR’S $50M FUND RAISE

There was some behind-the-scenes debate this week as to what Sony Music paid to buy a majority-stake in Todd Moscowitz’s Alamo Records. One well-placed source told us that, whatever Sony paid, it valued Alamo at a whopping $250 million. Other sources close to the deal suggested that this mooted $250 million figure was an exaggeration. All sources agreed that what  reported (“Sony paid comfortably north of $125 million”) was true. The question is: how far comfortably north? Further sources have since led us to believe that Sony Music paid somewhere between $125 million and $200 million for its majority stake in Alamo. We don’t know the precise size of majority stake Sony acquired. But, for example, if it bought a 75% chunk of Moscowitz’s company for $190 million, that would indeed give Alamo a ≈$250 million valuation. These guessing games don’t touch on perhaps the most interesting quirk of the deal, though: Alamo was originally launched as a JV with Universal Music Group. As a result,

FROM HIPGNOSIS RAISING $210M TO WARNER SPENDING $100M: IT’S MBW’S WEEKLY ROUND-UP

Which big-money music catalog will Hipgnosis Songs Fund boss Merck Mercuriadis add next to his company’s $2.2 billion-valued portfolio? The ever-reliable (ahem) Daily Mail rumored this week that Mercuriadis has been in conversations with Noel Gallagher about buying up the Oasis writer’s publishing rights. Gallagher, meanwhile, told the Daily Mirror his song rights will all come back to him by 2025, that he’s happy to flog them for £200 million, and that – rather than give this cash to his children – he’s going to use it to buy a super-yacht and a Learjet and, in his own words, “f*****g have it”. A bit of silliness in a relatively quiet week for the music business? Sure. Either way, Hipgnosis has revealed it’s targeting a new raise of £150 million ($210m) via a fresh share issue on the stock market. It’s also told investors it intends to up its credit facility to make its war chest even larger Hipgnosis is doing so not only to buy beautiful songs, but to compete in an increasingly fre

TRAIDORES (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

TRAIDORES   (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Director Jon Viar Music composed b y José Sánchez-Sanz Label Plaza Mayor Company Ltd In the twilight of his life, several men who shared a terrible experience decide to meet again. Life has taken them to different places, cities and points of view. All have evolved but have different opinions. It has been almost half a century since they made a decision that would mark their lives forever. They appreciate each other, respect each other, know each other too well, but the environment in which they lived has never been favorable. Now they get together to talk about their mistakes and successes, how they went from being heroes to being traitors, how they were plagued by those who previously praised them. At least they have the consolation of thinking that they have defeated the monster they created. They have spent many years, but they do not always find words to repair the mistake they made: they belong to the origin of ETA. Now is

IN HISTORIC MOVE, SONY MUSIC IS DISREGARDING UNRECOUPED BALANCES FOR HERITAGE CATALOG ARTISTS

Image
For some time, influential voices in the industry have called for the unrecouped balances of heritage artists to be written off by record labels. This would see modern-day royalty earnings of these acts get paid into their pockets, rather than being swallowed by a record label with whom they may have ended dealings decades ago. That is especially true, in many cases, for heritage Black artists. Last summer, during industry-wide discussions surrounding Blackout Tuesday, veteran US artist manager and attorney, Ron Sweeney, called on the major record companies to implement a number of new policies in a strong op/ed. Sweeney wrote: “With respect to Black artists signed to you prior to 2000, that are no longer signed to your companies, zero out their unrecouped royalty balances and let their royalties flow to them so they can support themselves.” Many in the music industry never thought we’d see a day where a major record company openly embraced such a plan. Those people were wrong. In a

FROM UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP’S $40BN-PLUS VALUATION TO TOMMY BOY’S SALE: IT’S MBW’S WEEKLY ROUND-UP

Sir Lucian Grainge is clearly a master at solving professional challenges whenever they arise. But even he’s going to struggle to get all of Universal Music Group‘s institutional owners on a single Zoom call pretty soon: the time zones are going to play havoc. This morning (June 4) we learned that Bill Ackman’s New York-based SPAC, Pershing Square Tontine Holdings (PSTH), is set to buy 10% of UMG from Vivendi in a $4bn transaction. This won’t result in UMG merging in any way with PTSH. Indeed, Vivendi is still pushing ahead with its plan to spin out 60% of Universal on the Amsterdam stock exchange before the end of September. Instead, if the PSTH deal and Amsterdam float both go through as intended, it will mean UMG ends up being owned thusly: 10% by US-based PSTH; 10% by France-based Vivendi; 20% by a consortium led by China-based Tencent; and 60% publicly traded in Europe. Will any of these institutional owners want to fiddle with Universal’s current strategy, and its continued heavy
